Training women and designing gives me a sense of fulfilment and joy. I have been teaching women one aspect of design or another since 2008.
I remember when I was still into full time fashion design, I spend half of the day teaching women how to make their first skirts, organizing free workshops and classes. Today, some of them have their own successful fashion businesses.
Looking at the apparel design value chain, I noticed there is an aspect that we are not yet capitalizing on in Nigeria; the extensive value chain available in textile design. Textile design encompasses weaving, dyeing, printing, painting, embellishments and so much more.
For the past 4 years, I have been teaching women the art of designing fabrics using embroidery and beadwork. Though they have been able to master the skill, most of them are not able to really sell themselves. To help them reach the target market, we will be showcasing the appliques made by our women from today. Each applique is specially made with love and you can use them for numerous things; From attaching on your clothing to placing it on throw pillows and using as wall decor.
Presently, all the women work from their homes.
Kindly help spread the word and note that each appliqué you buy help a woman to support her family.
